Volcano Hybrid Filling Chamber, Reducers and Dosing Capsule Adapters Explained

For a normal session, fill the Volcano Hybrid's filling chamber with ground herb up to the lower edge of the hopper and no higher, without packing it down. For smaller loads, Storz & Bickel makes a dosing capsule adapter for the Volcano Hybrid: a 15 mm reducer that sits in place of the standard chamber cylinder and holds a dosing capsule or a small amount of ground herb. It comes with two 15 mm screens and one capsule.

This guide explains the parts of the Volcano Hybrid filling chamber, how full to fill it, what a reducer does, how the capsule adapter works and which parts we do and do not sell for it. It sits alongside our guide to using the Volcano Hybrid and the rest of our Storz & Bickel guides.

1. The Parts of the Filling Chamber

The filling chamber is the removable part that holds your herb and sits on the hot air outlet. It is built from a few simple pieces:

  • Cap (with a cap ring), which screws on at the top and has rotating knobs for grip.
  • Chamber housing, the body with a textured grip.
  • Chamber cylinder, which holds the herb and clicks into the housing.
  • Screens above and below the herb, which keep plant material out of the balloon or tube.

The box includes a filling chamber with the cap ring, a normal screen set and a cleaning brush. Storz & Bickel says the chamber and tube parts can be taken apart and put back together in a few seconds for cleaning, which makes the screens easy to change.

2. How Full to Fill It

The manual is clear on the fill level: fill the chamber with ground herb up to the lower edge of the hopper, and no further. In practice that means the herb sits level and loose. Do not press it down. A light fill leaves room for air to pass through, and a packed chamber slows the airflow and can push herb towards the screen. If a session gives you thin vapor, try loosening the fill or cleaning the screens before you change anything else.

After the cap is on, check that the screens are free of herb. Storz & Bickel recommends cleaning them with the supplied brush after every session. Then place the chamber on the hot air outlet and turn it clockwise, without over-tightening the threads, which can damage the unit.

3. Screens

The screens catch particles and keep the airflow even. The upper screen must sit correctly in its notch, because if it is out of place, bits of herb can reach the balloon or tube and be drawn in. For Easy Valve Volcano setups the standard screens are 30 mm across and 0.1 mm thick, in stainless steel.

Replace screens when they are bent, clogged or still restrictive after cleaning. Both sets are made by The Vapetrix, not by Storz & Bickel, and both are for the Easy Valve system only. They will not fit Solid Valve setups.

4. Reducers

A reducer is any insert that makes the chamber smaller. The idea is simple: a smaller space means less herb for the same hot air stream, which suits a quick solo session or a draw that you want to taste at a lower load. The stock chamber is built for larger loads, so a reducer matters when you want smaller, more efficient sessions. Storz & Bickel lists a Volcano Hybrid filling chamber with a reducer, so check its product page for the exact contents and size. Our similar guide for another device, the Venty chamber reducer article, explains the same principle for a portable.

5. The Dosing Capsule Adapter

The Volcano Hybrid dosing capsule adapter is the Storz & Bickel route to a smaller, tidier load. It works like this:

  1. Take the chamber apart and remove the standard chamber cylinder. Leave it aside while you use capsules.
  2. Place the adapter in the chamber, with its 15 mm screen.
  3. Drop a filled dosing capsule into the adapter with the lid facing upward.
  4. Screw the filling chamber cap back on and use the Volcano as normal, with the balloon or the tube.

To fill a capsule, grind your herb, use the magazine cap as a funnel, fill it without compressing it, and close the capsule by turning its cap clockwise. Storz & Bickel sells a magazine that holds up to eight filled capsules, and a larger filling set with 40 capsules and a plunger, so you can prepare sessions in advance. Loading is fast and clean because the herb stays in one small container, and a loaded capsule can wait in the magazine until you need it.

This is an official Storz & Bickel part, and we do not currently list the adapter ourselves, so buy it from Storz & Bickel or an authorised dealer. Make sure the product is the one made for the Volcano Hybrid and Easy Valve rather than a version for another model.

6. What Fits and What Does Not

Because the word "capsule" appears across our range, here is a clear map:

  • Volcano Hybrid dosing capsule adapter: Storz & Bickel part, for the Volcano chamber.
  • Our glass capsules and glass chamber reducers: made for the Venty, Crafty and Mighty only. They do not go in a Volcano. If you own one of those, see our comparison of glass and aluminium dosing capsules.
  • Our Volcano screens and balloon bags: made for Easy Valve Volcano setups, listed in the Volcano accessories collection.

7. Cleaning and Reassembly

Take the chamber apart once it is cool. Storz & Bickel suggests isopropyl alcohol with a cloth, or warm water with dish liquid. Let every part dry fully before you put it together. To reassemble, push the cylinder into the housing until it locks, insert the screen from above, then screw the cap on clockwise. The key check is the upper screen: make sure it sits flat in its notch.

Quick Answers

Can I put a Venty, Crafty or Mighty glass capsule in my Volcano? No. Those capsules and reducers are sized for those portable devices. The Volcano uses its own adapter and capsules.

Does the Volcano Hybrid heat the same with a capsule in? The device itself works exactly as before: heat, pump, balloon or tube. What changes is how much material the hot air passes through. Storz & Bickel notes that the vapor temperature you breathe also depends on the amount of material, the setting and your draw, so you may want to taste a session and adjust the set temperature to suit.

How often should I clean the chamber? Brush the screens after each session, and take the whole chamber apart for a proper clean whenever airflow drops or flavor goes flat. A tidy chamber is the quickest fix for most weak-vapor complaints.

8. Which Setup to Use

Setup Best for Notes
Standard chamber Sharing and larger sessions Fill to the lower hopper edge, do not pack
Chamber with reducer Smaller sessions without capsules Check the product page for exact size
Dosing capsule adapter Quick, clean, pre-filled loads Capsule goes in lid-up; magazine holds eight

Final Thoughts

The filling chamber is the part you touch every session, so a few habits go a long way: fill only to the hopper edge, keep the upper screen seated, brush the screens after use and replace them when they stop passing air freely. If you want smaller, tidier loads, the Storz & Bickel dosing capsule adapter is the tool made for the Volcano Hybrid.
